Saint James Catholic Church serves as a host warming shelter on Wednesday nights/Thursday mornings from December through February. The warming shelter is an initiative that brings together several area churches following the format designed by Father Charles Strobel in Nashville, TN. Volunteers show the inviting spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ by offering the homeless in our community — our “guests” — a clean, warm, friendly environment during the coldest winter months. Tasks include set-up of cots with bed linens, provide snacks, breakfast, lunch sacks, transportation from/to Warm Blessings, visit with guests, stay overnight with guests (women sleep in women’s room, and men sleep in men’s room), clean-up, and launder bed linens and towels. Volunteers may choose and sign-up for specific tasks.
